BHP: performance insights in a hybrid setting

The brief

The team at BHP Australia were looking for a hybrid team engagement session with tangible insights. They wanted something that was fun and interactive, but that would also provide measurable insights into team dynamics, and to better understand how they could improve their performance as a group.

The program

Loumee’s Playing it safe team development program was selected as the perfect way to educate and engage the team with something they would enjoy playing, while also providing insights for individuals into their own contribution to the team and their views on workplace psychological safety.

The program was also aligned with management goals, to better understand how their team was tracking on a key determinant of performance- psychological safety.

The session was delivered using Loumee’s platform over MS Teams, with some participants in-office and several participating remotely.

The two hour program included an educational primer, the team game experience The Hunt, a reflection activity, and a short follow-up experience to reinforce the learnings.

The outcome

During the program, participants were highly engaged, with small team activities providing an opportunity for people to build rapport.

After the game section of the program, the answers were presented and the top 3 teams were announced, providing an opportunity for shared celebration which has been shown to strengthen relationships.

Afterwards, the reflection activity provided interesting insights for the participants and a chance to provide feedback, with anonymised aggregated data delivered in a short report showing that the team was tracking well in regard to team psychological safety.

The team leader, Ross, gave this feedback after the event:

The session was excellent. I haven’t had to attempt a team build across multiple locations like that before. I was a bit cautious, but the activity was excellent and the team enjoyed it greatly. The survey was a neat touch as well, it was useful to get a temperature check on how we’re going.
